4Common problem
We often apply springs in our lives, but because of chemical and electrochemical reactions, the contact surfaces of the springs will be corroded to varying degrees, causing damage to the springs and affecting the performance of the equipment. How to prevent the spring from corroding in advance? Next, the spring manufacturer will provide you with the following methods.

There are three anti-corrosion methods of spring: painting, oxidation and electroplating. Their anti-corrosion principle is to form a protective layer on the surface of the spring to isolate the spring from the outside to achieve the purpose of anti-corrosion.

1. Painting:

It is to apply a layer of protective paint on the center of the spring, which is one of the main methods of spring corrosion. Mostly used in large and medium springs. Especially hot formed springs and leaf springs. The commonly used painting methods are spray paint and dip paint. With the development of process technology, in order to improve work efficiency, paint utilization and paint quality, new processes such as electrostatic spraying will be promoted.

2. Oxidation treatment:

The oxidation treatment of the spring is also called blue or black. After the oxidation treatment, protective magnetic iron oxide is produced on the surface of the spring, the thickness is about 0.6~2um. Due to the thin film and many voids, the protection ability is poor. Therefore, the oxidation treatment can only be used for anticorrosion of springs that work in less corrosive media.

What is the method to prevent the spring from corrosion in advance?
Because the oxidation treatment cost is low, the process formula is simple, the production efficiency is high, and the characteristics of the spring are not affected, it is widely used for the surface anti-corrosion of cold-formed small springs.

3. Electroplating:

Electroplating is an effective method to obtain a metal surface protective layer, and it is also the main method of spring corrosion protection. It is characterized by good adhesion of the coating, fine and compact crystals, small porosity, uniform thickness, and good physical, chemical and mechanical functions.

Electroplating includes zinc plating, chrome plating, copper plating, tin plating and nickel plating. The most common application is zinc plating. The galvanized surface of the spring is generally white or colored. Zinc hardly changes in dry air. In humid air or water containing carbon dioxide, a white zinc oxide film will be produced. This film can play a role in corrosion inhibition.

The galvanized layer is suitable for use under various atmospheric conditions, but the corrosion resistance of zinc is poor in aqueous solutions containing acid, alkali, and salt and in pure marine atmospheric conditions. Galvanizing is characterized by beautiful appearance, low cost, simple process and good effect, so it is widely used in the anti-corrosion of small and medium-sized springs in the atmosphere.
